House sitting began with something I love to do: taking care of my own property. I typically had one of the best lawns on the block and the nicest garden, be it plants or vegetables. My tomatoes were  legendary.  Friends would ask me to help them with their own landscaping, then later with renovation or interior design. Taking care of their properties when they traveled was next. I always did my best for them. Then I met someone (Sarah) who liked to work just as hard as I did. Together we completed a major renovation on our home with outstanding results.

When a perfect storm of events motivated us to sell our cherished home fully furnished, we drove off into the sunset, literally, knowing we would be well-suited as full-time house sitters. We didn't know if we would be successful, but confidence in each other goes a long way. Seven years later we're going strong and find ourselves to be in demand. That's a good thing. Sarah's remote work for the Canadian Forces and University of Victoria keeps us well-fed and I take care of her along with the property we're in charge of. It's a happy and rewarding relationship between us and the home owners & their pets.
